Sixth Annual Central Maryland Formation Day, March 13, 2004

Mount St. Mary's, Emmitsburg, Maryland

Over 300 area catechists, youth ministers, Catholic school teachers, parish and school leaders, clergy, social outreach ministers, RCIA teams, singers, musicians and an impressive faculty of workshop conductors gathered for Central Maryland's annual formation event. Bishop W. Francis Malooly presided at the keynote celebration.

Amy Florian elicited rave reviews from participants for her personal and inspirational keynote, and practical insights from her workshop.

Amy Florian signs copies of her books in the Exhibit Area. Copies of her book The Mass: An Invitation to Enjoy It, quickly sold out.

In his workshop, "Beyond Technique, " Bobby Fisher helped musicians and singers explore how to support the sung prayer of their communities.

The early morning quiet on Mount Saint Mary's campus was quickly replaced by the buzz of enthused participants at the Annual Formation Day.

Marie Kordes offered workshops on the Creed, and "Mary, Mother of God: The First Disciple"

Pat Lawlor helped workshop participants prepare and preside at prayer with adults.

Leo Quinn explored ways to connect with youth culture.

Rev. J. Daniel Mindling, OFM Cap, offered insights for dealing with End of Life issues.

Dan Mulhall, US Conference of Catholic Bishops, conducted "Catechesis in America: The Shape of Things to Come."

Participants relaxed over a delicious luncheon in Mount Saint Mary's new Patriot Hall cafeteria.

Christine Barthold, Archdiocese of Baltimore, conducted the morning workshop, "When Good Kids do Bad Things."

Participants discussed strategies and issues for "Preparing and Presiding at Prayer with Adults."

Gloria Rink, Women of the Bible Alive, demonstrated the use of costumes in her workshop, "How to Dramatize Scripture Stories."

Dr. Brenda McCartney, Assistant Superintendant from Garrett County Public Schools, offered an in-depth look at poverty in her workshops.

In "What Every Catholic Should Know About Liturgy," Dr. J. Michael McMahon, National Association of Pastoral Musicians, offered principles and insights for great liturgy.

Alice Hession's workshop, "Fostering Catholic Identity in Your School", was well attended by area teachers and principals.

The Catholic Education Ministries Center of Central Maryland provides ongoing support to the Catechetical Ministries of Carroll, Frederick, and Washington Counties. This includes training programs for leaders and volunteers in parishes and schools, plus consultation in all areas of catechesis.
