Catechumens and candidates from 18 parishes took part in the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion in Central Maryland. Bishop W. Francis Malooly, Western Vicar, presided at the event.

During the ceremony, parish representatives called 53 catechumens forward by name. As they stood before the Bishop with their godparents, the Bishop declared them to be members of the Elect, to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist during the Easter Vigil.

After the Rite of Election, parishes then called 123 candidates forward. The Bishop challenged them to be faithful to their baptismal covenant, and to be renewed in spirit as they are received into the Catholic Church.
