Amy
Sorensen "comes home" to St. Michael's, Poplar Springs as DRE
After some time away from Maryland, Amy Sorensen is delighted to be living
and working in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. She began ministry as Director of
Religious Education at St. Michael's, Poplar Springs in July.
"Living and working in Maryland is, for me, a kind of 'coming
home," Amy said after a recent visit at the Center. "My childhood was
spent in the mountains of Cumberland, MD, and I've always retained a deep love
for the beauty of Maryland's landscape. I have been very mobile in past years,
living in South Bend, IN, New Jersey, Chicago, Arizona and the D.C. area, before
coming to live in Frederick and work in Mt. Airy this year."
Amy has served in a variety of ministries over the years. For the four years
prior to coming to St. Michael's, she worked as a Catholic school teacher, in
Northern Virginia and on a Navajo Reservation in Northeastern Arizona. In
addition, she has served as a lay chaplain, therapist, and youth minister.
Coupled with these rich experience is her formal training, in theology and
ministry. Amy holds a Masters of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological
Seminary, and a Masters in Social Work from Rutgers University.
"I am excited to be able to integrate my diverse experiences in this
position at St. Michael's," Amy said. "I have appreciated the
warm welcome I've received from the parish and diocesan personnel, and am very
pleased to have been called to serve and minister here."
Welcome back to Maryland, Amy. We hope that you are able to say
"home" for a long time!
