Nancy Golowski, New Youth Minister

Serving three parishes at one time – this is the new job of Nancy Golowski, Youth Minister for Our Lady Mount Carmel, Thurmont; St. Anthony, Emmitsburg and St. Joseph, Emmitsburg.  Effective April 1, 2002 Nancy is working with the youth in grades 7-12 of these three parishes.  The tri-parish youths all come together as a single group, very appropriately calling themselves, “Three in One.”

A native of New Jersey, Nancy, her husband, Mark and daughters, Melissa, aged 7 and Peyton, aged 1 live in Taneytown and are members of St. Joseph, Emmitsburg.  Nancy holds a bachelor degree in English from Indiana University, Bloomington.  Prior to moving to Taneytown in 1999, the Golowski family lived in Reading, Pennsylvania.

Nancy found herself drawn to youth ministry programs as a high school student, when she helped bring an Antioch retreat program to her hometown parish - a program which is still in existence today.  While in Reading, Nancy taught Catholic faith formation classes, as she has here, at St. Joseph parish.  She also is a volunteer at Mother Seton School in Emmitsburg, where her older daughter is in the first grade.

When asked where she sees the Youth Ministry program of these three parishes in 5 years, Nancy answers,  “Still going, still existing.  And for that to happen we have to be rooted in service.  Each parish, as part of their mission, has some component of service.  For the Catholic youth ministry we have the perfect opportunity to do that  - to serve God by serving others.  Our theme this year is ‘pass it on’-  and with our good works, kind words and time with our friends that is what we will do – pass on this good Catholic faith that we share.” Enjoyment is of importance as well, as Nancy adds, "I would like it to be purposeful, fun, and really a faith in action ministry."

We at Central Maryland extend a warm welcome to Nancy and wish her the very best as she passes on her faith to “Three in One” youth of Emmitsburg/Thurmont!
