Main joins Mount Saint
Mary's as director of
community service
Melissa Main, a native of Frederick County, has been appointed as the new director of community service and service learning at The Mount. Ms. Main holds a B.A. in Psychology from Western Maryland College and a B.A. in Elementary Education from The College of Notre Dame in Baltimore. In 1998 she obtained her M.Ed. from The Mount.
With eight years teaching experience in the Catholic school system, along with three years of Youth Ministry experience, Ms. Main has planned retreats, coordinated service projects and has completed many fundraisers to enhance the middle and high school youth programs. Ms. Main recently returned from Israel as one of six youth ministers chosen from across the country to participate in the Catholic Relief Services Immersion trip, the purpose of which was to experience the injustices of the people in that nation, in order to better teach about peace and justice here in the United States.
In her new role at the Mount, Ms. Main will be responsible for directing the service outreach programs and academic service-learning activities of the college. She will work with the student service leadership team in promoting, directing and evaluating local service opportunities, break service trips and special events such as the Mount's annual CROP Walk and Hunger Awareness Meal.
Asked what she is looking forward to, Ms. Main stated, "I'm really excited to get started working with the students, and get out and serve the community. There are so many opportunities to serve the people of our area, and it is great seeing the excitement of the students to do this type of work. Getting involved with service work as college students enhances their lives, and will follow them throughout their careers".
Welcome to ministry in Central Maryland, Melissa!
