Laura Weber joins Staff of
St. Katharine Drexel, Frederick

The excitement of charting a new parish's history is growing as St. Katharine Drexel, Frederick, has received independent Mission status.   Pastor-Designate Keith Boisvert has recently announced the hiring of Laura G. Weber as Director of Faith Formation.

In her new position, Laura will be working with the mission's Religious Education task force and the Adult Faith Formation committee to develop a comprehensive program which will touch all members of the parish regardless of age or faith experience.  With her strong enthusiasm for adult learning and personal faith development, Laura is looking forward to ministering to the needs of St. Katharine Drexel parishioners through faith sharing, scripture study and educational opportunities.

Organizing such a program for an emerging parish is an exciting venture.  Initially, Laura will focus her efforts on implementing a faith formation program which is strongly family-centered as well as intergenerational.  She will also be working on sacramental preparation programs for baptism, reconciliation and eucharist.

Another of Laura’s goals is to develop a year round RCIA process, which will begin after next year's Easter Vigil.  Other areas of Laura’s involvement will include working closely with the Children's Liturgy of the Word leaders and catechists for the 3-5 year old Sunday program.

A native of the state of New York, Laura received her Masters degree in social work from the State University of New York in Albany.  Her 10 years in catechetical ministry include work as a parish DRE and as Associate Director for Family Life in the Diocese of Albany prior to moving to Maryland.  Her most recent position was Coordinator of Adult Faith Formation for St. Joseph-on-Carrollton Manor in Buckeystown.  Laura lives in Frederick with her husband, Chris and two children, Ellen, 6 and Eric, 3.

Psalm 139 holds significance for Laura.  As she explains, “it speaks to me of a loving God, a personal and intimate God - a God that we need to love in return all of our lives.”

How precious to me are your designs, O God;
how vast the sum of them!
Were I to count, they would outnumber the sands;
to finish, I would need eternity.

Central Maryland wishes Laura much success as she continues her ministry among us!
