Jim
Schrader Joins St. Timothy, Walkersville, staff
Heading up the Adult Faith Formation and Lay Ministry training, Jim Schrader has recently joined the staff of St. Timothy parish in Walkersville. In this newly formed position Jim will develop programs especially geared toward increasing the adult parishioners' knowledge of their faith. Arranging events and speakers for different seasons during the year, such as Lent; and implementing ministry training for parish lectors, Eucharistic ministers, ushers and greeters are just a few of the means by which Jim plans to fulfill his job.
While the position is new to St. Timothy parish,
Jim certainly is not. He has been an active member of the parish since its
beginning, in 1980. The list of committees and ministries he has served is
impressive and bears witness to the dedication Jim has toward his
church.
He is the current, as well as past, president of the parish council. He
chairs the parish liturgy committee as well as the Central Maryland Liturgy
Network. He is a Eucharistic minister and usher for St. Timothy, and
represents his parish on the Central Maryland Adult Coordinators team. He
is also the staff representative for Disciples in Mission, an archdiocesan
initiative focusing on evangelization. He
is a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Currently, Jim is completing his fourth year in the Church Leadership Institute which includes the Core Classes and the Basic Tract. This coming year he will be completing the adult catechesis courses and then looks forward to the advance courses in the Church Leadership Institute. Also, just this past May 16 (2002), Jim received his Advanced Catechist certification from the Archdiocese.
Jim and his wife, Kathie, are an active sponsor couple for the Marriage Preparatory ministry, with emphasis on remarriage. They live in Walkersville, have 8 children, and 10 grandchildren.
Where does one person find so much inspiration to give so much of his self to his parish community? Jim turns to Scripture, citing the Road to Emmaus passage from St. Luke's gospel...
"And it came to pass, while
they were conversing together,
that Jesus himself also drew near and went along with them..."
Luke 24:15.
Catholic Education Ministries congratulates Jim on his new position and wishes him, and those he leads, well on his spiritual journey!
