St. Joseph, Eldersburg,
welcomes Nora Rozelle

by Judy Williams

Nora Rozelle is the new Director of Religious Education at St. Joseph Catholic Community in Eldersburg, effective July 1.  She replaces Maria Klicpera who is now Pastoral Associate for Business Affairs at the parish.

Prior to accepting her new ministry, Nora served as Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry at St. Joseph parish in Cockeysville.  Concurrently for three years and a total of nine years, she was a Mission Helper of the Sacred Heart.

The fifth of six children (four older brothers and one younger sister), Nora was born in Alabama.  With an Air Force father, the family lived in many places, including Germany, settling in DC Metro-area.  Nora received her Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland, in Baltimore.  This fall she will begin working on her Masters of Divinity at Washington Theological Union.

As Director of Religious Education at St. Joseph's in Eldersburg,  Nora will oversee religious programs for children in grades Pre-K through 5th grade.  Nora has an extensive background in parish ministry, serving in parishes as far away as Florida and and New York, and as close as the DC area.  With experience in the areas of Religious Education, RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults), baptism and marriage preparation, it is her knowledge of both Religious Education and Youth Ministry from which she will draw strongly in her new position.  With an eye to the children's teenaged years, Nora hopes to build a strong foundation of faith within those enrolled in the parish's religious education programs.  By encouraging parents and children to begin as and remain active participants during these early years, it is Nora's hope that once they reach their teenage years - a time when many drop out of church programs - these same youths will be inspired to continue on with their faith formation.

When Nora reflects upon scripture, which speaks to her every day in the liturgical cycle, she finds special meaning in the words of Jesus in the Gospel of John,

I give you a new commandment: 12 love one another.
As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.

                                                                                           John 13:34

We offer a warm welcome to Nora in her ministry here, in Central Maryland!
