Katie Crews, Youth Minister at St. Joseph-on-Carrollton Manor, Buckeystown  by Judy Williams

Katie Crews began serving in September as Youth Minister at St. Joseph-on-Carrollton Manor in Buckeystown, replacing Joy Foust.   She was previously the parish secretary, a position she maintains on a part time basis.

Katie was previously the Program Director at St. Stephen the Martyr parish in Middleburg, Virginia.  She ran the Middle and High school youth summer program at St. Stephen and also volunteered in the parish, serving in various capacities.

Growing up in Northern Virginia, Katie was an active participant in her own high school youth group at St. John the Evangelist in Warrenton.  These early experiences helped foster Katie’s devotion to youth ministry.  After high school, Katie attended Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, and also Lord Fairfax Community College in Virginia.

TYM (Total Youth Ministry) is Katie’s main focus as St. Joseph.  TYM encompasses some 45 registered Senior High participants, and 120 registered Middle school/Junior high participants.  Katie will also oversee the parish’s Confirmation preparation program.  The sacrament is received in the fall of the students’ 10th grade year.

TYM meets on Sunday nights, with an occasional “movie night”  hosted by Katie and her husband, Troy, in their home.  Both Katie and Troy are members of St. Joseph.

As Katie strives to build a successful program for the youth at St. Joseph, she keeps in mind her goal of creating an atmosphere in which the parish youth can feel comfortable as they investigate their own faith, flourishing as they build fellowship.

She finds inspiration in the words of St. Soledad:

"Do not be anxious about a house on earth
When you have such a beautiful one waiting in heaven."

Central Maryland extends a warm welcome to Katie in her new ministry at St. Joseph’s!
