Angie Scheerer joins staff of St. Ann, Hagerstown as Director of Religious Education by Judy Williams

Hired September 1, 2004, Angie Scheerer is the Director of Religious Education at St. Ann parish in Hagerstown.
Already an active volunteer within the parish, Angie will now oversee religion classes for some 350 students in grades K-8, as well as sacramental preparation for reconciliation and First Eucharist. As she settles into her new position, Angie plans to maintain the strong programs implemented by her predecessor, Patricia Rogers. This includes two sessions of Sunday morning religious education classes and a family centered program. As she considers her new position within the parish, Angie keeps in mind her main goal, to broaden the smile on the family-friendly face of religious education."
A native of Hagerstown, Angie has been a member of St. Ann’s for over 20 years. Growing up, she was a member of St. Mary’s Parish. She attended St. Mary’s School, St. Maria Goretti High School and earned a degree in chemistry from St Joseph College in Emmitsburg. After college she taught at Goretti for a year, spent several years working in a hospital laboratory, and later returned to teaching on a part-time or substitute basis while raising her children.
Once her children were grown, Angie's call to ministry gained momentum. Her attendance at the Archdiocese's Institute at Seton Keough High School brought her spiritual enrichment and she began to explore her faith more deeply. After earning her Professional Catechist Certificate, she pursued courses in theology at Mt. St. Mary’s in Emmitsburg, MD.
Besides her present position, Angie has been a catechist and pioneered St. Ann’s summer camp program. She also
volunteers
for Gwen Skrabak’s adult faith formation program, serves on the parish retreat
team, and, with her husband, coordinates the Sponsor Couple Marriage Preparation
program at the parish. She and her husband, Joe, have three grown
children, Joe, Mary and Patrick, and two grandchildren,
Elena and Larson.
When reflecting on which Scripture inspires her, Angie recalls the words of St. Paul,
1 Corinthians 13
Central Maryland wishes Angie much success as Director of Religious Education at St. Ann's!
